Then and Now

"Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."
From "My Back Pages" by Bob Dylan - Click here for Complete Lyrics.

I remember when I worked in New York (Manhattan), I could run 2 blocks to cash my check, whiz into a store to buy a new outfit for a Friday night date, pop into a Nedick's (are they still there?) to grab a hot dog, and be back at my desk...all within a 1-hour lunch break!

Now........it would take me the entire hour just to get to the bank!

Things that hurt NOW didn't hurt THEN! And I sure moved around better THEN than I do NOW!

I still want to be able to get around. I REFUSE to do otherwise, so I'm considering a way to increase my mobility!

When I'm 64?

"When I get older, losing my hair ... when I'm 64?"
From "When I'm 64" by John Lennon/Paul McCartney, The Beatles

Well, I'm a lot closer to 64 than I was when The Beatles first sang it.

And, my younger son has moved the grandchildren too far away (California) for them to be "on [my] knee" very often. Now, I have to book a flight and travel to see them! At least when I'm 64+1, I'll be able to click on the Senior rates and save some money!

I'm not "losing my hair," but I am watching my cholesterol. See my Blog Natural Remedies and Foods.

Would you like to see the kind of food I grew up on? I found these pics on Mouthfuls.com, posted by Melonius Thunk, but I am [was], indeed, a Katz's Delicatessen customer and I have the emotional scars to prove it (from Katz's waiters' insults - a/k/a "ambiance").

Katz's is still there at 205 E. Houston (pronounced House-ton) St., New York, NY, and they probably still have the same salami hanging from the ceiling they did when I was 10 years old. The sign attached to it said, "Send a Salami to Your Boy in the Army" (Looks like they still print this suggestion on their place mats - see pic of Pastrami on Rye.) Cholesterol never tasted so good! Oh, well...

"...season and a time to every purpose under heaven"

Ecclesiastes Text "The Bible" and "Turn Turn Turn" The Byrds :-)

I was in a store the other evening and passed a book display.... What caught my eye was a title, Gettin' Old Ain't For Wimps. I chuckled to myself and agreed, "Ain't that the truth!"

There are days I look in the mirror and say to myself, "Who Is That? Wow, she looks OLD!" I don't think of myself as that person looking back at me. And then I bend down to get something I dropped and I think, "Yup, she's me!"
